Release notes

0.10.1

Current release · Early Access · 2026-11-06

This maintenance update improves cursor tracking on Windows and Live MIDI playback with the plugin window closed in REAPER. These are the changes since 0.10.0.

Fixes

  • Delayed crosshair and Freq display on Windows. The crosshair and frequency readout now follow the mouse pointer more responsively. The improvement has been confirmed with VST3 in REAPER on Windows.
  • Live MIDI stopping when the REAPER plugin window closes. The VST3 plugin now correctly tells the host that it needs to keep processing silent input to generate MIDI. Live MIDI can continue with the plugin window closed when REAPER’s project-level auto-bypass on silence is enabled. This behavior has been verified on macOS.

REAPER setting

Keep Force auto-bypass on silence off for the PitchCanvas FX instance. Turning it on forces REAPER to stop processing regardless of the plugin’s request to keep running.

Updating and compatibility

Download 0.10.1 using the link in your purchase receipt or the Payhip page for your edition. Quit your DAW, then run the installer for the same edition, Full or Trial.

Projects saved with 0.10.0 remain compatible. Plugin IDs and the saved project format are unchanged.

The Mac installers support Intel and Apple Silicon and include VST3, CLAP, AU and AU MIDI FX. The Windows installers include x64 VST3 and CLAP.

See the 0.10.0 release notes for other known limitations.

0.10.0

Previous release · Early Access

Sync to your DAW’s tempo, shape phrases with the Quantize bar, use per-note pitch bend with MPE, and play curves in Logic Pro with MIDI FX. Play from any point or duplicate a page to try a variation. These are the changes since 0.9.2.

New features

Editing and playback

  • Play from here. With Live MIDI on, click the PLAY FROM HERE strip above the canvas to hear the curve from that point. Press Esc to stop. The next time you start playback in your DAW, the curve starts at the beginning.
  • Duplicate a page. Choose Duplicate in the page browser to try a variation of a phrase. The copy has all the original lanes, curves, settings and mute states, and you can edit it independently.
  • Join Lines. Drag a selection around two continuous lines on the same lane, then right-click and choose Join Lines. The lines must not overlap in time. If there’s a gap, a straight segment connects the endpoints and preserves the corners at the join.
  • LFO fade-in and fade-out. Drag the triangular handles on the top edge of the selection inward to bring the modulation in or out gradually. Right-click a handle to choose the fade shape or enter its length. On dashed LFOs, the fade runs across the whole line, including rests.
  • Double or halve the rate. Press Ctrl+Shift+↑ (Cmd+Shift+↑ on Mac) to raise the selection an octave and halve its duration. Use ↓ with the same modifiers to lower it an octave and double its duration.
  • Transpose by an octave. Press Alt+↑ or Alt+↓ (Option on Mac) to move the selection up or down an octave at its original length.
  • Resize to a multiple of the original length. Hold Shift and drag the middle handle on either side of a selection to snap to ¼×, ½×, 1×, 2× or 4×. The ratio and the resulting duration appear as you drag.

Quantize, tempo and MIDI output

  • Quantize bar. Click Quantize next to the page selector to see the pitch and time settings. Use the checkmark to apply them to the selection. Opening or closing the bar leaves existing curves as drawn.
  • Time in milliseconds. Click the Time value to enter any interval from 0.1 to 10,000 ms.
  • Sync to Host Tempo. Turn this on in Project settings to make Live MIDI, the sine preview and the time display follow your DAW’s tempo. MIDI files use the tempo at the time of export. Existing projects open with their saved Project BPM.
  • New instance defaults. Save your preferred bend ranges, MIDI mode, CC assignments, tempo sync and drawing settings. PitchCanvas uses them the next time you add it to a track.
  • MPE Lower Zone output. Curve notes and individual grains can now send separate pitch bends, so one note can ring out at its own pitch while the next one bends. This works with Live MIDI and exported MIDI files. Enable MPE on the receiving instrument as well. Standard MIDI is still the default.

Logic Pro and GarageBand

  • MIDI FX for Logic Pro. The Mac edition now includes PitchCanvas MIDI FX. Insert it in a software instrument track’s MIDI FX slot for live curve playback and offline bouncing. It passes through MIDI from your keyboard and regions, and MIDI preview lets you audition the same instrument.
  • AU for GarageBand. Both Mac editions include the PitchCanvas AU. Use Drag MIDI to place your curve on a software instrument track as a MIDI region.

Rendering in REAPER

  • Fine Live Pitch Bend in REAPER. For fast pitch curves on a software instrument, turn on “REAPER: Fine Live Pitch Bend” in the VST3 tools menu. It applies to buffers of 6 ms or less and defaults to off.

  • High quality stereo Apply. Choose High quality (4 samples) under REAPER Apply mode to render stereo takes in blocks of four samples. Normal playback keeps its usual buffer size.

  • Finer pitch changes in offline renders. High quality stereo Apply in REAPER VST3 and offline VST3 renders in Waveform, Cubase and FL Studio use more frequent pitch bend updates to reduce errors in steep drops and fast LFOs. Drag MIDI keeps its existing event density.

Update checks

  • Automatic checks. Opening the editor checks for a published update at most once every 24 hours. You can turn Auto-check off in About PitchCanvas.
  • Update notification. A blue dot, “Update available” and the version number appear in the upper right.
  • Check now. Open About PitchCanvas to check manually. If there’s an update, you can read the notes there and use Get update to open the download page for your edition.

Improvements

Editing and quantizing curves

  • Edit curve controls. The Inspector now groups Edge taper, Invert and Reverse under Edit curve. Smooth and Reduce have been removed. The Points tool still lets you edit anchors and use smooth interpolation.
  • Separate Key and Scale selectors. Choose the root note and scale in either order. You can set the key while Scale is off and pick a scale later.
  • Time intervals in note values. Choose note to set the interval as a note value. Turning Time off now remembers the last interval and unit for the next time you use them.

MIDI output settings

  • Lane layout. New projects start with one Pitch lane and three CC lanes (Mod 1–3). Older projects with Both lanes or more than one Pitch lane still open.
  • Fit to curve per lane. Fit to curve now sets the bend range for the selected Pitch lane. Other lanes keep their own ranges.
  • Bend range when switching modes. Switching between Standard MIDI and MPE keeps the bend range you selected.
  • CC endpoints. The settings are now called CC at Top and CC at Bottom, so you can see which value each edge of the canvas sends.
  • Bend range for Ableton Simpler. Pitch lanes now offer ±5 semitones to match Simpler. Fit to curve can also choose this range.

Panel layout

  • Make room for the controls you use. Hide Sine preview and Reset view individually through Appearance or their context menus, then move the Inspector into the space. Collapse the Inspector with its upper-right arrow. These display preferences are saved on your computer.
  • Menu placement. Right-click menus open at the pointer. Dropdowns and submenus stay inside the plugin window.
  • Message details. The upper right shows a one-line summary of your last action. Hover to read the full message. Click it or press Enter while it has focus to open a panel where you can scroll and copy the text.

Bug fixes

Playback, rendering and DAWs

  • Wrong starting pitch after a rest. In Phase Plant, a note could slide up from a lower pitch after a rest. Live MIDI now sets the starting pitch before the note sounds.

  • Curve restarting in REAPER. Bypassing an effect with latency after PitchCanvas VST3 could restart the curve during Live MIDI playback. The fix also covers PLAY FROM HERE.

  • Stepped pitch drops in REAPER renders. A steep drop in Phase Plant could sound smooth in playback but stepped in a new stereo take. The default REAPER Apply mode, Match Live playback, now uses the playback block size when you apply FX to a new take.

  • Flat pitch in Bitwig Studio. Phase Plant VST3 now follows the pitch curve when it sits after PitchCanvas VST3 on the same track. Previously the note could stay at one pitch.

  • Missing curve onset in Cubase offline exports. Live MIDI now starts at the left locator in Cubase VST3. See the real-time export limitation below.

  • Preview continuing after MPE Panic. Fixed the sine preview playing past the stop position when CLAP received Panic on several channels in the same audio block.

Editing and undo

  • Snapping with Quantize off. You can now draw and move curves freely with Quantize off. Turn it back on to use your previous pitch and time settings.
  • Undo after reopening the editor. Closing and reopening the plugin window now keeps each page’s Undo history, including any edits you can still redo.
  • Undo after restoring the plugin. If you remove PitchCanvas and bring it back with your DAW’s Undo, you can resume undoing page edits and deletions.

Display

  • Double outlines on buttons and menus. Fixed the square border that could appear around rounded controls and the flicker after a click. Tab navigation still shows which control has focus.

  • Clipped help text. Inspector descriptions and tooltips now wrap to fit, so you can read the last line.

  • Millisecond values in the light theme. Numbers stay legible while you edit the Time field. Previously they could turn white.

  • Obscured playback warnings. Grid lines and the playhead no longer cover the RED / NOT PLAYED label.

  • LFO fade values in the light theme. Fade length percentages remain readable while you drag the fade-in and fade-out handles.

  • Closing the CLAP editor on Mac. Fixed a host parent view remaining retained after the editor was closed.

Compatibility and known limitations

  • Editing shortcuts in REAPER on Mac. Rate and octave shortcuts may not respond in the VST3 edition. If the Rate shortcut does not respond, right-click PitchCanvas in REAPER’s FX list and try enabling “Send all keyboard input to plug-in”.

  • Real Time Export in Cubase 15. A real-time mixdown can cut off the beginning of a Live MIDI curve. To render in real time, turn Live MIDI off and use Drag MIDI to place the part on the instrument track at the left locator. For offline mixdowns, Live MIDI starts at the left locator automatically.

  • Receiving MPE. Your instrument must support MPE and have it enabled. Pitch retention during release tails also depends on the instrument, as the 15 member channels are reused. Accompanying CC is sent on Master Ch1; other Pitch lanes can conflict with the MPE channels.

  • Release tails in Standard MIDI. Preparing pitch bend for the next note can affect the previous note’s release tail. Very short rests or dense MIDI traffic may leave too little time for the instrument to settle at the next pitch.

Updating from 0.9.2

Download 0.10.0 using the link in your purchase receipt or the Payhip page for your edition. In-plugin update checks are available starting with 0.10.0.

0.9.2

Previous release · Early Access

More accurate pitch delivery, curve display and MIDI export.

  • Send the pitch you drew. Live MIDI and MIDI export now use Direct pitch values: the nearest pitch bend value to the curve at each event’s timestamp.
  • Prepare the starting pitch. Live MIDI sends pitch bend one audio block before the note to reduce the low-pitch slide at the start in instruments such as Phase Plant. CC lanes playing alongside the Pitch lane stay in sync.
  • Give changing curves more of the MIDI budget. Empty, muted and constant lanes leave more updates available for changing Pitch and CC curves. Update timing for gentle curves and event spacing within each beat of exported MIDI have also improved.
  • Display the curve that plays. Fixed differences between the displayed line and the pitch being sent with dense LFOs and nonlinear pitch axes.
  • Improve playback and export precision. Fixed block-size-dependent timing at the end of curves and the order of CC and pitch bend events across lanes. MIDI export also avoids repeated calculations.

Existing projects remain compatible and retain their editing data.
